HANDMADE REPRODUCTION

After the death of Baldwin V, successor and nephew of Baldwin IV 'The Leper', Saladin poised to siege Jerusalem. Out of desperation and necessity, Balian of Ibelin stripped the silver and gold edicule from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher for striking coins to pay those defending the city at its last stand.

Obverse: Cross of Jerusalem surrounded by legend 'BALDVINVS REX' (King Baldwin)
Reverse: Tower of David (citadel near the Jaffa Gate to Old Jerusalem) surrounded by legend 'DE IERUSALEM' (Of Jerusalem)

PRODUCT INFO:
- Cold struck from solid .925 sterling silver [~1-1.5g] (like the originals, coins are fairly thin)
- Just like the original ancient coins, each is hand struck, so allow for slight irregularity and variance from the photos
- As with all of our wire earrings, these coins are double sided and therefore reversible to mix and match whichever way you choose.
- Solid sterling silver earring hooks (not cheap silver plated copper)
